As they should, Individuals representing test groups (testers) maintain standing to file website accessibility suits on behalf of plaintiffs, which will likely mean increased litigation in 2024 and beyond.
If technology testers are not able to test websites and other technologies, then many issues will go unreported and unresolved. This will create a lack of services to people with disabilities.
Through no fault of their own, users are often not as tech savvy as testers and may report issues that are actually operator errors and not accessibility issues. This may create a level of dismissiveness within information and communication technology departments.
The U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) unanimously dismissed Laufer v. Acheson on the question of "tester" status and whether plaintiffs may file lawsuits if they have no intention of using the relevant product or service. Contact me to learn more.

Do you have children and adults with special needs attending your church? Have you noticed a family with a child needing extra care and attention at church? Do you wonder what their lives are like and how you might could help? If you answered yes to any of these questions, let me encourage you to think, pray, and consider how you can serve and love these families in your midst. But where do I start? you may ask. Well, let me give you four things to consider.
Are there any workplace accommodations that will help you succeed in this role? This question, which may seem like one of many that a job seeker would come across, had a significant impact on neurodivergent individual David Thomason. David was participating in the onboarding process for Mentra, a hiring platform that uses AI to match neurodivergent job candidates with fulfilling careers, and the question made him feel seen and heard as he looked for his next role. He used Mentra to get matched with a great opportunity—which happened to be a position at Mentra as a software engineer. Now David brings his authentic self to work every day, helping other neurodivergent job candidates find their next great roles.
"The next product is Blindsight," Musk explained, "which will enable people who have lost both eyes or have no eyesight whatsoever to see... and this is directly interfacing with the optical processing areas of the brain." This groundbreaking technology," he added, "could potentially "address almost any brain or spine injury."
My final thoughts? There still exists those companies that are committed to real customer service. But at the same time there remains those employees who fail the test of proactive customer service! Just my two cents for today.

Disability rights advocate says she feels province has 'moved that goal.'
We hear almost daily about rapidly expanding AI capabilities and new assistive tech gadgets that can provide impressive visual interpretation. With all of the new tech advancements, does labeling still have a place in your accessibility toolbox? Don't underestimate the importance of accessible labels, especially talking labels that allow you to add detailed information. There are several important reasons why the accessible label is here to stay.
According to Google, users will be able to access what it described as "more detailed walking instructions" while navigating to places. With Google Lens and its screen-reading capability, people will be able to hear the name and categories of places around them — Google used ATMs and restaurants as examples — and know how far away they are from getting there.
Last August, I wrote an opinion piece for influential tech industry news site The Register, highlighting a significant issue affecting 250 million people worldwide: the lack of support for non-standard speech in Apple's voice recognition technology. Professional microphone set upThis challenge is faced by individuals with acquired or progressive conditions such as cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease, those recovering from strokes, and my own condition, muscular dystrophy.
Accountants often have a difficult time having their claim for disability benefits approved. Insurance companies consider the job of an accountant as sedentary, believing all it entails for an accountant to do the job is to sit at a desk for four hours a day. The disability insurance attorneys at Dell Disability Lawyers offer some tips accountants can use when submitting their disability insurance claims. We invite you to watch this video to learn more.
In March 2023, U.S. News & World Report surveyed 2,000 U.S. adults age 55 and older to learn how they are using assistive technologies in their homes and the ways they plan to use these devices to help them age in place. The overwhelming majority of respondents (93%) agreed that aging in place — "the ability to live in one's own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level," according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — was an important goal for them.

The team at Canopy has a compelling value proposition. The company sells lifestyle products for the home that it boasts are easy to use, craftily designed, and, in certain cases, dermatologist approved. Those attributes were thrust to the forefront on Tuesday, as Canopy announced the Handheld Filtered Showerhead. The company says the all-new device, which costs $150, is "dermatologist-recommended, easy-to-install, [and] designed to filter chlorine, heavy metals, and other contaminants, providing clean water that supports healthy skin and hair." In addition, Canopy says the new shower head also features a scalp massager, hydrates skin to be healthier, and comfortable levels of water pressure. But Canopy is just as proud of another attribute: accessibility.
Gadgets and toys with cutting-edge technology that cater for people with visual impairments are gaining traction in Japan, as an increasing number of firms are adopting inclusive designs that can be handled easily by many. Sony Corp. launched last year a digital camera that projects the subject captured by the device onto the user's retina via laser technology, allowing visually impaired people to see things though a viewfinder and take photos.
Spotify is making a significant move in the audiobook industry, solidifying its commitment by forming two new partnerships. The platform has recently inked deals with Bonnier Books UK and Blackstone Publishing, adding their extensive collections of vibrant, award-winning audio titles to our Audiobooks in Premium offer.

Accessibility is unfortunately still an afterthought on many projects. User interaction and accessibility requirements are poorly documented, at best. Or forgotten, when handing over designs to developer teams. And fixing it later costs a LOT more than building it right to begin with. Great documentation helps teams implement accessibility requirements the right way. This is the text version of a talk, where I explain why, what and how designers can document different aspects of accessibility and user interactions requirements, to build better more inclusive products from the start.

About: Barrier-Free Canada/Canada Sans Barrieres (BFC/CSB) advocates for the Canadian Parliament to enact a strong and effective Canadians with Disabilities Act (CDA) to achieve a barrier-free Canada for all persons with disabilities.
To this end, BFC/CSB is seeking endorsements from national disability organizations to build a non-partisan community coalition. BFC/CSB would also like to identify point persons from these organizations to act as key contacts.
The steering committee of BFC/CSB has drafted a set of principles concerning a CDA that are drawn from the principles that underpin the provincial disability legislation in Ontario and Manitoba. A CDA is not meant to replace provincial disability legislation. It will complement such legislation and benefit Canadians living in provinces with and without provincial disability legislation. At this point in time, CNIB, March of Dimes Canada, Canadian Hearing Society and MS Society of Canada have endorsed the BFC/CSB principles and confirmed their support for the movement to enact a CDA. There is no individual or organizational charge for membership in BFC/CSB.
